Your day begins at a relaxed 9:00am departure from Queenstown, travelling the edge of Lake Wakatipu toward Glenorchy along one of the world’s most scenic alpine roads. With towering peaks rising straight from the lake, the journey sets the tone for a leisurely day of discovery. Along the way, your guide shares engaging historical, cultural and geographic commentary — from early settlement and gold mining to farming, film-making and life in this remote alpine region.

From Glenorchy, we continue into the Paradise Valley.

Private Discovery Tours has exclusive access to Mount Earnslaw Station — a 130-year-old working high country sheep and beef farm. Travelling by 4WD across active farmland, you gain genuine insight into country life before concluding the farm experience at the operational woolshed.

We then journey around the far side of Mt Alfred along a private scenic road beside the braided Dart River. At the Mt Alfred Terraces, enjoy a 40–60 minute walk up a farm track to panoramic views overlooking the Paradise Valley — vast, quiet and breathtaking. 

From the afternoon onward, we return to publicly accessible areas of the valley, allowing you to choose your next experience. Opt for a two-hour Dart River Jet Safari, join us for the famous Routeburn Nature Walk, or enjoy a peaceful stroll around Lake Sylvan.
