Milford Sounds Discovery Tour - Private

- Duration: 12 Hours (approx.)
- Product code: PENJHY
Exclusively available as a private charter from Queenstown, this full-day journey to Milford Sound / Piopiotahi is designed around your interests, timing and pace. Unlike large group departures, this experience is fully personalised — from the commentary to the stops — giving you the space and flexibility to travel in comfort, with room to pause, reflect and explore along the way.
Departing Queenstown, we travel along the southern shores of Lake Wakatipu toward Te Anau, passing productive Southland farmland where sheep, cattle and deer dot the landscape. After a refreshment break in Te Anau, we enter Fiordland National Park — a UNESCO World Heritage area renowned for its glaciers, rainforests, waterfalls and wildlife.
The road to Milford is as spectacular as the destination. We pass through the Eglinton Valley and pause at the Mirror Lakes boardwalk, Knobs Flat, passing by the Divide and the Hollyford Valley lookout. After driving through the 1.2 km Homer Tunnel, we emerge into the Cleddau Valley for a final stop at The Chasm — a dramatic ravine carved over millennia by the Cleddau River.
At Milford Sound, board a small-vessel scenic cruise (maximum 85 guests), offering up-close views of Mitre Peak, cascading waterfalls and sheer cliffs rising directly from the fiord. Keep watch for dolphins, seals and native birds, and enjoy your picnic lunch in one of the most awe-inspiring environments on earth.
The standard journey is approximately 12 hours return by road. For a more exclusive finale, you can upgrade to a scenic flight or helicopter return, offering a breathtaking aerial perspective over Fiordland’s untouched wilderness.
What sets this experience apart is the way it’s delivered — no large coaches, no fixed scripts. Just genuine local insight, meaningful stops, and the freedom to connect with the landscape on your own terms.
This private Milford experience is ideal for those who want more than just the destination — it’s about the journey, the stories, the flexibility and the privilege of exploring Fiordland at your own pace.
