Queenstown Local Area Tour - Shared

- Duration: 4 Hours (approx.)
- Product code: PG8JLT
When we travel, most of us want a local introduction — a tour that covers the essential highlights, provides meaningful context, and reveals the stories behind the scenery. This four-hour experience offers exactly that: a relaxed, locally guided journey through the Wakatipu Basin’s most significant sights.
We collect you from your Queenstown accommodation and begin exploring the region’s rich history and dramatic landscapes.
Travel through the Shotover Gorge — once the richest gold-bearing river in New Zealand — and take in panoramic views from Skippers Saddle across the Wakatipu Basin toward Coronet Peak. Continue to Arrowtown, where you’ll have time to explore this charming historic village. Stroll the boutique-lined main street, visit the Lakes District Museum, and learn about the area’s goldmining past and early Chinese settlement. Nearby, view the filming location known as the Ford of Bruinen from The Lord of the Rings.
The journey continues to the Kawarau Gorge suspension bridge, home to the original bungy jumping site. Walk the bridge, view the Bungy Dome, and take in the striking turquoise waters below. We also visit the filming location known as the Pillars of the Kings before pausing at Lake Hayes for its iconic reflections and peaceful alpine setting.
Throughout the tour, your local guide provides engaging historical, cultural and geographic commentary, bringing depth and personality to each stop.
When booked as a private tour, this experience becomes fully customisable. Drawing on local insight and insider knowledge, we can shape the route to reflect your interests — whether that’s gold mining history, film locations, photography viewpoints, boutique stops in Arrowtown, or lesser-known scenic corners of the basin.
This is the essential Queenstown overview — relaxed, insightful, and guided by those who know it best.
